Crowns cover a tooth that has a large filling.
A crown (cap) is an outer covering placed over a prepared tooth, strengthening it and giving it a natural shape.
Crowns, also known by other names such as caps or capsules, are ideal for teeth that are broken, or that have been badly weakened by decay and have a large filling.
Crowns can also be used for a number of other reasons, such as:
- Teeth with fillings that have become discoloured.
- Rebuilding a tooth whose root is still healthy.
- Holding a bridge or a fixed prosthesis in place.
